A Georgian mahogany linen press attributed to Gillows

77 ½” x 50” x 22 ½” | Circa 1760

A Georgian mahogany linen press attributed to Gillows, a linen press of this quality and by such a prominent maker are becoming rare to find in such original condition, original stepped bracket feet sitting on a delightfully detailed mounding, supports the base of oak lined drawers with original brass swan neck handles, the top with solid fielded panel doors of typical Gillows design and application which encloses a set of four linen trays, one of which is a very good later replacement. A typical feature of the best Gillow pieces is the use of a paneled back to both sections, this method of construction was used as it was deemed superior and stronger. The whole piece has a wonderful original patination and colour. The old nails which originally fixed the delivery label to the client this piece was commissioned for are present on the top, unfortunately the label is no longer there. A delightful linen press constructed of the best quality timbers.
